
The Morris County Trust for Historic Preservation is a service organization for the New Jersey historic preservation community. Since 1978, we have offered help to the stewards of this state's historic and cultural resources.
The items below are some of the activities we partake in. Some contain links which will take you to more specific information.
Advice for owners and prospective owners of historic properties;
Publication, with other groups, of an annual list of the 10 most-endangered historic properties in the county;
Counseling for groups with preservation problems;
Mentoring for existing historic preservation commissions;
Formal comments on projects reviewed under state and federal
preservation law, and participation as an interested party;
Help for towns and groups that want to establish historic preservation commissions including the New Jersey Highlands Coalition;
Cooperation with the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office in Trenton, NJ;
Partnership with similar organizations to reinforce our mutual strengths;
Provision of lists of preservation specialists among artisans, and of preservation professionals in the state;
Access to an extensive library of preservation-related books and references. These books are on loan with the collection of the North Jersey History Center, 1 Miller Road, Morristown, NJ;
Consultations on historic property easements;
Monitoring of state and federal preservation-related legislative developments;
Guidance and practice for advocacy and community activism.
